National Retirement Planning Week® 2013 Set to Kick Off on April 8

Washington, D.C. – April 2, 2013 – The Insured Retirement Institute (IRI) today announced that National Retirement Planning Week® 2013 will take place from April 8 to 12. Held during financial literacy month, National Retirement Planning Week® is led by the National Retirement Planning Coalition, a group of prominent education, consumer advocacy and financial services organizations that have joined together to promote and increase awareness for comprehensive retirement planning.
National Retirement Planning Week® 2013 events and activities:
Monday, April 8: The coalition will host a kickoff conference call for reporters and unveil new IRI research findings from its third annual report on Boomers’ retirement expectations. The call will begin at 10 a.m. eastern time and will include a panel representing coalition partners and industry experts. To register, please email Andrew Simonelli at asimonelli@irionline.org.
Tuesday, April 9: IRI and Corporate Insight will release a report on how financial services companies use new technologies to inform consumers.
Wednesday, April 10: The American Savings Education Council and its partners will host a meeting at 9:00 a.m. eastern time at the Kaiser Family Foundation’s Barbara Jordan Conference Center in Washington, D.C., to discuss new retirement trends, research and planning tools. Registration required.
Thursday, April 11: IRI and the Social Security Administration will host a complimentary webinar for financial professionals. The webinar, which is approved for continuing education credit, will cover a broad range of Social Security topics including retirement strategies. The Defined Contribution Institutional Investment Association (DCIIA) will feature a panel discussion that will explore policy options to help consumers manage assets and attain lifetime income during their retirement years. The discussion will take placing during DCIIA’s 2013 Public Policy Forum in Washington, D.C. Panelists will included Lee Covington, IRI Senior Vice President and General Counsel; Kevin Hanney, Director, Portfolio Investments, United Technologies; and Jason Fichtner, Senior Research Fellow, Mercatus Center at George Mason University. Friday, April 12: IRI and the National Retirement Planning Coalition will release a package of FINRA-reviewed client materials for financial advisors to help clients formulate a plan for a financially secure retirement.
