  • Northwestern Mutual Named Top Company for Women Technologists

October 4, 2017 by Northwestern Mutual

MILWAUKEEOct. 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Northwestern Mutual announced today it has been named one of the Top Companies for Women Technologists 2017 by the Anita Borg Institute, an international organization founded on the belief that women are vital to building technology that the world needs. The announcement was made at the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing Conference (GHC), which kicks off today through Oct. 6 in Orlando, Fla.

Northwestern Mutual is a first-time recipient of this cross-industry national program, which recognizes companies committed to building workplaces where women technologists can succeed. Recipients also exemplify their commitment to measuring progress as it relates to increasing the representation, recruitment, retention and advancement of women technologists.

“We are thrilled to be recognized as a company committed to creating an environment where women technologists can thrive,” said Emilia Sherifova, vice president, architecture and engineering for Northwestern Mutual. “Diversity, inclusion, talent attraction and development fuel our continued growth as a company; women technologists play a pivotal role in this growth, and we’re dedicated to helping them succeed.”

GHC is not only a celebration of women in computing; it also serves as a key opportunity for Northwestern Mutual to engage with top female talent through professional development, recruitment and learning activities. This year, Cynthia Smith, senior engineer for Northwestern Mutual, will lead a session on the company’s full engagement with open source software —something that sets it apart from most larger, legacy companies. The company will also participate in the Technology Executive Forum, Senior Women’s Program and career fair exhibit at the conference.

GHC is the world’s largest technical conference for women in computing. The conference results in collaborative proposals, networking and mentoring for attendees and offers professional development opportunities. Conference presenters are leaders in their respective fields, representing industry, academia and government. The Anita Borg Institute co-presents GHC with the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM).
