Symetra Life Insurance Company has named Harry Monti to be the senior vice president in charge of its group life and disability and selected benefits fixed-payment medical businesses.

Monti succeeds Craig Raymond, who’s retiring.

Monti previously was head of group life and disability operations at Symetra. 

Before Monti began working for the Bellevue, Washington-based company, he was a group benefits consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

He spent 13 years in operations and claims at units of Hartford Financial Services Group Inc.

He has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Thomas College. He holds the certified public accountant and fellow of the Life Management Institute professional designations.

1. Lincoln Financial Group has hired Stafford Thompson Jr. to be senior vice president for life product management at its individual life insurance business.

Thompson will be based in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Previously, he was a vice president and marketing actuary at SCOR Global Life Americas. He has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, with a concentration in actuarial science, from Florida A&M University. He is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He is a former president of the International Association of Black Actuaries.

2. New York Life Investment Management (NYLIM), an affiliate of New York Life Insurance Company, has hired Ian Forrest has joined the company as global chief marketing officer.

NYLIM now manages $316 billion in assets.

Forrest previously was managing director and chief marketing officer for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region at BlackRock Asset Management. Before that, he was a marketing executive at GE Capital.

Forrest has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Southern California and a master’s degree in business from the Peter F. Drucker Graduate School of Management at Claremont Graduate University.

3. Life Epigenetics, a unit of Minneapolis-based GWG Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq:GWGH), has hired Randal Olson to be its lead data scientist.

GWG runs an exchange for people who buy and sell in-force life insurance policies.

Life Epigenetics uses information about epigenetics, or biological factors that change how people’s genes work, to assess people’s health and life expectancy.

Olson previously was the senior data scientist at the Computational Genetics Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania. He worked with a colleague to develop a popular automated machine learning tool. 

Olson has a doctorate in a computer science and ecology, evolutionary biology and behavior from Michigan State University.

Brian Chen continues to be Life Epigenetics’ chief scientist.

4. LTC Global Inc. of Fort Myers, Florida, has named Gene Arsenault senior vice president for business development and carrier partnerships.

Arsenault spent 12 years as national director of long-term care insurance sales at John Hancock.

LTC Global is a national distributor of life and health products. It provides commission advance programs and renewal commission purchase programs for insurance agents.
