Protective Life’s announcement that it is giving bonuses and increasing the company’s minimum wage is getting national attention.
On Tuesday, the Birmingham-based company announced it is giving a special $1000 bonus to about 75 percent of its employees. Protective Life is also establishing a minimum wage across its employee base of $15 per hour.
The company said the decisions came in response to last year’s federal tax reform legislation.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders called attention to the moves during her morning briefing yesterday.
“As a direct result of the Trump tax cuts, the Alabama-based company is raising their minimum wage to $15 per hour and giving a $1,000 bonus to over 2,000 of their workers,” she said. “For those of you keeping track, we now have over 350 companies that have announced wage increases, bonuses, new hiring or increased retirement benefits as a direct result of tax reform, which not a single Democrat supported.
“These announcements have affected over 4 million American workers. The president’s working to build an economy that works for all Americans,” Sanders said.
